Sin

THREE THINGS SIN WILL ALWAYS DO
Hebrews 3:12, 13

INTRODUCTION:
1. The deceitfulness of sin lures many unsuspecting souls to spiritual ruin!
A. Things like immorality, false doctrine, defiled consciences, and
compromise all seek to bring about man’s spiritual downfall.
2. Sin never delivers what it offers - Heb. 11:25; 2 Pet. 2:17-19.
A. Samson serves as a great example of this.
1. Sin in his life caused him to never live up to his potential - Heb. 11:32.
2. Though a judge he was often ruled by personal revenge and lustful
passions which weakened his devotion to God.
3. Only in death was he fully impressed that his strength was from God
- Judges 16:17, 20, 28.
3. From Judges 16 we want to see three things sin will always do.

BODY:
1. SIN WILL ALWAYS TAKE YOU FARTHER THAN YOU WANTED TO GO -
Judges 16:4-20.
A. Samson' s will was finally broken by the constant enticements of Delilah -
vrs.15-17.
1. At first he had no intention of telling her - vrs. 7, 11, 13.
A. He should have simply told her that it was "from God" and that' s
final.
B. The allurement of sin must be rejected from the first - Prov. 1:10-16; 4:14, 15; 1
Cor. 15:33.
C. Sin, when given occasion, will always progress into further evil - Psalm 1:1.
1. Error is as a cankerous sore - 2 Tim. 2:16-18; Rom. 16:17, 18.
2. Evil grows worse and worse - 2 Tim. 3:13.
3. It hardens and condemns - Heb. 6:4-6.
2. SIN WILL ALWAYS KEEP YOU LONGER THAN YOU WANTED TO STAY
- Judges 16:20, 21.
A. Samson had no intention of remaining bound - v. 20.
1. But he did not know that God had left him due to his actions.
2. When sin allures us we often don' t consider the bondage it causes - Prov.
3:29-35.
1. We experiment with sin and overlook how it blinds our hearts - 2 Cor. 4:4.
B. The story of the Prodigal son serves to illustrate this point well - Lk.15:11-32.
1. His riotous living led to despair and desperation- vrs. 14, 15.
C. We need to beware of the controlling power of sin - Jhn. 8:34; Rom. 7:22, 23;
6:11-14; 1:18-32.
3. SIN WILL ALWAYS COST YOU MORE THAN YOU INTENDED TO PAY -
Judges 16:30.
A. Samson' s recklessness with God' s blessing cost him his sight, his dignity, his
strength, his freedom, and finally his life - Jdg. 16:21, 25, 30.
1. Finally he acknowledged God as the source of his strength and God blessed him one last time - vrs. 21, 28-30.
B. Choosing sin will cost you:
1. Your soul - Rom. 6:23; Mk. 8:36, 37.
2. God' s fellowship - 2 John 9.
3. Peace of mind, peace with man, and with God - Phil. 4:6, 7.
A. Sin alienates you from God and robes you of your peace - Col. 1:21.
4. Your dignity and honor - Eph. 5:12.
5. Heaven - Mt. 25:46.
C. Instead of paying the price of sin, pay the price of discipleship - Lk. 14:26-33.
1. Devotion, sacrifice, separation from sin, and holiness.

CONCLUSION:
1. We need to learn from Samson.
A. Sin will always do these three things!
B. Don' t be deceived into thinking you can master sin by yourself - 1 Cor. 10:12.
1. Only in Christ is victory achieved! - Eph. 6:10, 13.
2. By obedient submission to His truth!

What If...

What if,
GOD couldn't take the time to bless us today because
we couldn't take the time to thank Him yesterday?

What if,
GOD decided to stop leading us tomorrow because
we didn't follow Him today?

What if,
we never saw another flower bloom because
we grumbled when GOD sent the rain?

What if,
GOD didn't walk with us today because
we failed to recognize it as His day?

What if,
GOD took away the Bible tomorrow because
we would not read it today?

What if,
GOD took away His message because
we failed to listen to the messenger?

What if,
GOD didn't send His only begotten Son because
He wanted us to be prepared to pay the price for sin.

What if,
the door of the church was closed because
we did not open the door of our heart?

What if,
GOD stopped loving and caring for us because
we failed to love and care for others?

What if,
GOD would not hear us today because
we would not listen to Him yesterday?

What if,
GOD answered our prayers the way
we answer His call to service?

What if,
GOD met our needs the way
we give Him our lives???

What if,
We fail to share this message.... ???
Heaven and Hell

A man spoke with the Lord about heaven and hell. The Lord said to the man "come, I
will show you hell". They entered a room where a group of famished people sat around
a huge pot of cooking stew. Everyone in the room was starving and desperate. Each person
held a spoon that reached the pot but each spoon had a handle so much longer than their
own arms that it could not be used to get the stew into their own mouths. The suffering
was terrible. "Come now, I will show you heaven" the Lord said.

They entered another room identical to the first, the big pot of stew, the group of
people and the same long-handled spoons. But here everyone was happy and well nourished.
"I don't understand" said the man. "Why is everyone happy here and
miserable in the other room? Everything is the same."

"Here," said the Lord "they have learned to feed each other"

Soul

There once was a man named Soul who was walking in a garden. He was whistling a real sweet tune for he was saved and had the joy of the Lord, but he was a baby Christian. As Soul was walking, a beautiful and seductive woman came out from behind a tree. Soul was very startled. He said, "Hello, I'm Soul, what is your name?"

She replied, "I am Temptation, I have what you want."

"What do I want?" replied Soul.

"You want to do all things which are of the flesh," said Temptation.

Soul replied, "O.K., lead me."

So he and Temptation went off and fulfilled the desires of the flesh. When Soul returned to the garden, he met a man named Condemnation. Condemnation said, "Hey, I see you have met my friend, Temptation."

Soul said, "Yes, who are you?"

"I am Condemnation, I come after Temptation. We work hand-in-hand." Then Condemnation jumped on Soul's back and began to beat him. He hit him in the face and kicked him when he was down. This went on for several days.

On about the third day, a man named Mercy came running and said, "I command you, Condemnation, to stop beating Soul."

Condemnation snickered, "Make me."

So Mercy unsheathed his sword and cut Condemnation in two.

As Soul watched in astonished pain, he was overtaken by the power of Mercy. Mercy walked up to Soul and said, "I have dealt with Condemnation before. He should not show up around you anymore."

Soul replied, "How can I ever thank you?"

"Well," replied Mercy, "I was sent here by God and He told me to introduce you to a dear friend of mine. His name is Redemption."

Redemption walked up and said, "Hello Soul, I see that you are not doing well."

Soul replied, "Not until Mercy came along. It is a pleasure to meet you Redemption."

"Well", said Redemption," I am glad to meet you. Are you ready to accept me?"

"What do you mean?" asked Soul.

Redemption said, "Well, when you accepted Jesus and decided to walk with Him, then you chose to accept the things of Him and His love. I am a part of Jesus' love. I help you feel forgiven. You will never have to deal with Condemnation again. Temptation may come around, but I have someone I would like for you to meet who can help you with that. His name is Grace."

Grace walked up to Soul and said, "Hello Soul, I have been waiting for you. As a matter of fact all three of us have been waiting to meet you. I will help you take the way out of Temptation that God gives you as it comes up. The last person we want you to meet is Faith."

"Hi Soul, I am Faith, and I will help you stay strong and keep your beliefs strong," said Faith.

Soul began to cry. When he began to cry Redemption said, "This is what we were here for. Jesus redeemed you, saved you by Grace through Faith and gives you his Mercy. Jesus loves you Soul."

Soul said, "I love you, Jesus."

The Holy Spirit

Envision a father helping his son learn to ride a bicycle, and you will have a partial picture of the Holy Spirit. The father stays at the son's side. He pushes the bike and steadies it if the boy starts to tumble. The Spirit does that for us; he stays our step and strengthens our stride. Unlike the father, however, he never leaves. He is with us to the end of the age. The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force. He is not Popeye's spinach or the surfer's wave. He is God within you to help you. In fact John calls him the Helper. Of the three persons of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit is the one we understand the least. Perhaps the most common mistake made regarding the Spirit is perceiving him as a power but not a person, a force with no identity. Such is not true. The Holy Spirit is not an "it." He is a person. He has knowledge (1 Cor. 2:11). He has a will (1 Cor. 12:11). He has a mind (Rom. 8:27). He has affections (Rom. 15:30). You can lie to him (Acts 5:3-4). You can insult him (Heb. 10:29). You can grieve him (Eph. 4:30).
What does the Spirit do? He comforts the saved. (John 16:7). He convicts the lost. (John 16:8). He conveys the truth. (John 16:12).
So think about it; have you ever been comforted? Has God ever brought you peace when the world brought you pain? Then you heard the Holy Spirit. Have you ever been convicted? Have you ever sensed a stab of sorrow for your actions? Then you've been touched by the Holy Spirit. Or have you ever understood a new truth? Or seen an old principle in a new way? The light comes on. Your eyes pop open. "Aha, now I understand." Ever happen to you? If so, that was the Holy Spirit conveying to you a new truth.

Overcoming Jealousy

Psalm 37:4 Now that we have a clear picture of what jealousy is and the detrimental impact it can have, we need to examine practical ways to remove the problem from our lives. If you've discovered that you are affected by envy, follow these steps today.

First, you must acknowledge that jealousy exists in your life. Be honest with yourself, and do not allow the envy to fester in the back of your mind.

Second, admit that you are in conflict with God. This is an important step, as it will prevent you from dismissing jealousy as "normal" or "acceptable" behavior.

Third, thank God for what He's doing in the other person's life. Perhaps He is performing a mighty work—praise Him for it!

Fourth, do something nice for the person. This may seem impossible, but the act of doing a good work—even if you don't feel like it—will start to short-circuit the negative feelings you have.

Fifth, ask the Lord to show you how He views that individual. This is a most helpful step, since it causes us to look beyond our own perspective and see the other person as someone valuable to God.

Sixth, refocus your attention on what God is doing in your life. His plans for you are just as big and important as His plans for the person you envy.

There's one more step that you must take: Adopt a Psalm 37:4 mindset. When you truly delight yourself in God and trust Him to bless you according to His will, you'll no longer feel a need for jealousy in your life. Then deep contentment will replace the old sense of envy and dissatisfaction.

Make a difference...

Families live in a culture today with values that often oppose those that Jesus taught.

Culture says,

"Value things."

Christ says, "Value people.

" Culture says, "Put yourself first."

Christ says, "Serve others.

" Culture says, "Never be satisfied with what you have; yearn for newer, bigger, brighter."

Christ says, "The abundant life that I bring is peace, joy, and contentment.

" Culture says, "Hurry up, be busy, do, do, do."

Christ says, "Slow down, remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy.

" Culture says, "Money and power and status are our gods; worship them."

Christ says, "God is God; worship God only.

" Culture says, "Now!"

Christ says, "Focus on the things that are eternal and I am with you always.

" Culture can be toxic for children and other living things with its
emphasis on acquisition, materialism, and self-centered living.

Christ calls us into community - to love one another as we have been loved.
